Bade Shahi Ashoor khanaThe Ashoor khanas or ashurkhana is the place where Shias Muslims do mourning during the festival of Moharram. And there is no other place than Bade Shahi Ashoor Khana for Shias in Hyderabad.

The Bade Shahi Ashoor khana located in Hyderabad is the oldest such monument was constructed in the memory of Hazrat Imam Hussain the grandson of Prophet Mohammed. People gather here to mourn the death of Imam Hussain during the battle of Karbala. Moharram is the first month in Islamic calendar and the day of Ashura (10th day of Muharram) was when Imam Hussain was martyred.

The Bade Shahi Ashoor khana  was built by Sultan Muhammad Quli Qutb Shah, the emperor who choose Hyderabad as its capital from Golconda. The Bade Shahi Ashoor khana was constructed after the construction of Charminar and the two are separated by a kilometre distance. Additions were made to the original structure later in the Qutub Shahi rules and Asaf Jhahi rulers.

The Bade Shahi Ashoor khana interior are covered with enamelled titles with written sayings from the Holy Quran. They also still retain its original beauty and shine. This houses several relics or Alams of killings in Karbala, they are only displayed to the people during Muharram.

The Bade Shahi Ashoor khana  is located opposite to Madina hotel in Darul Shifa. The closest bus stop is Darul Shifa bus stop and the closest MMTS station is Dabirpura station. Its open on all days.
