Among the two top universities are – one is the famous Osmania University and Jawahar Lal Nehru Technological University. Jawahar Lal Nehru Technological University is the modern day university primarily known for engineering courses located in Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh, India. It was founded in 1965 as Nagarjuna Sagar Engineering College and it was renamed to its existing name in 1972. And in 2008 it was deemed as an autonomous university.
JNTU main campus is situated in Kukatpally area. National Accreditation and Assessment Council (NAAC) of University Grants Commissions, part of Government of India in 2001, rank this as A Grade University. It conducts exams like EAMCET for entrance into engineering, ECET for Polytechnic students and MCACET for entrance into MCA Campus College and affiliated colleges. To most of the surprise of the people JNTU has more than 350 affiliated engineering colleges in 10 districts of Andhra Pradesh, out of which 200 are located in outskirts of Hyderabad only. It has also got 95 Pharmacy colleges, 21 dedicated MCA and MBA colleges, and 12 integrated campuses altogether. Overall a total of 2 lacs students can be intake by JNTU itself every year in various disciplines. It has 12 departments’ altogether and JNTU campus at Anantpur and Kakinada.
