Osmania University named after the last Nizam of Hyderabad, Mir Osman Ali Khan, is a famous public university located in Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh, India. Osmania University is one of the oldest modern universities in India and also the first university to have local language Urdu language as the medium of instruction. Later when it became public university, the medium of instruction was changed to English.
Osmania University is well known for courses on Arts, Commerce, Law, Medicine, Business Management, Oriental Languages, Humanities, Science, Engineering, and Technology. It was established in 1918 by the founder of it Nawab Mir Osman Ali Khan with an area of 1600 acres. The main building right now assigned to Arts College is the famous architectural masterpiece.

Osmania University has more than 400 affiliated colleges for Bachelor degree in Commerce, Commerce in Computers, Commerce in Honors, MBA and PG. It has also got more than 50 affiliated colleges for Engineering & Technology studies offering more than 32 different courses. It has got 52 departments altogether and the total strength of 3,00,000 students with a faculty of 5000 peoples. It has 14 hostels for 4,500 hostelers to reside. The engineering affiliated colleges like Chaitanya Bharti Institute of Technology and Vasavi College of Engineering are the two top most well know affiliated colleges which are India famous and among the Commerce college we have Badruka College, St Mary’s College, St Anns College & Loyola College.
The engineering colleges of Osmania University is considered next to the IITs in India and Osmania Medical College is the best medical college in Andhra Pradesh but it’s now transferred under the supervisions of NTR University of Health Sciences. The central library has an amazing structure and many librarians are on to work for it.
Osmania University is a nonprofit university which is funded and managed by government. It conducts an entrance examination for each course they offer and it’s purely based on merit list, not to mention the caste reservation comes into picture. The research activities here are funded by agencies like University Grants Commission & Council for Scientific and Industrial Research.
