Hussain SagarHussain Sagar is one of the largest man-made lake located in the center of the city at Hyderabad, India and the people here often recognize it as the Tank Bund. Hazrat Hussain Shah Wali built Hussain Sagar across the Musi river tributary in the year 1562 under the rule of Ibrahim Quli Qutb Shah of Qutb Shah Kingdom for a price of Rs 2.5 lakhs.

At the center of the lake is the 18-meter high monolithic statue of Lord Gautam Buddha erected in 1992. It separates the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad. The lake was constructed to server the drinking water and as the source of irrigation to the city of Hyderabad but it’s not used since 1930. At the end of the lake once can find a Masjid and a dargah.

The lake and the adjacent areas are among the most visited scenic spot in Hyderabad. The broad road of the tank bund is through a series of 33 statues of famous personalities of Andhra Pradesh state. The well-built and famous point of recreation like Lumini Park, NTR Gardens, Sanjeevaiah Park, Hotel Marriott, Jal Vihar, Eat Street, Lal Bahadur Cricket Stadium, Birla Mandir are located on the bank of Hussain Sagar. On the opposite side of tank bund road we have Necklace Road which also has several worth see point of interests.

The lake also has a the facility of boat ride from Lumbini Park to Buddha Statue run by Andhra Tourism board. With different services and prices set for speedboats & ferry, the AP Tourism has done better to provide a good service.

This lake is quickly becoming a spot for sailing and various regattas are held every year. The Hyderabad Sailing Week is held every year since 1984.

The nearby railway station is Necklace Road MMTS station. If you wanted to have complete drive around the lake then take Necklace road reach Secrateriat and then take the Tank Road road up till Hotel Marriot and then take left from that to once again on Necklace Road.

The present condition of the lake is going from worst to worse.

    For Speedy boat its Rs 150
    For normal boats Rs 80
    For Bhageeratha, its Rs 30 per head.
